Gravel Garden at the Farm

My interest in gravel gardens stems from my interest in wild plant communities like glades and sand prairies. Absent abundant moisture, plants in these conditions thrive under environmental stress, inspiring precedents for the challenges of modern landscapes especially in urban settings. At my family’s farm, I’ve created two gravel gardens over the last 15 years that have fostered my studies in this medium. The gravel garden pictured here in its sixth season was planted in 2010.
