Long Look Prairie

The Long Look Prairie is a 3,000 square foot planting I made at Three Oaks in 2018. It is a prairie in name and spirit rendered with considerable horticultural license in response to heavy clay soil on a site with a legacy of fairly intensive human disturbance. The planting is intended to be immersive, like the feeling of walking through a vast tract of prairie. While it’s essentially a small patch in a greater wildness throughout a parkland neighborhood, it serves as a refuge for insects and birds and teems with abundance. The photos here show the garden in 2020-2022.
