Hellstrip

I love the challenges of the urban environment, including otherwise forlorn spaces like hellstrips and medians. In one such planting at the Des Moines Art Center, I created a colorful and energetic design that boasts an array of floral resources for the entire growing season. Visitors were so enamored with the turnaround from a former stretch of mulch and daylilies that visitor services staff created a plant list to provide easy answers to countless curious questions.
